Waterborne Illness for Facilities Management
Please join us for educational and informative presentation on Waterborne Illness.
After participating in this presentation, attendees will be able to:
- Discuss mechanisms through which staff and customers may be exposed to waterborne pathogens in an institution
- Name common waterborne pathogens
- Describe the formation of biofilms and their importance in the proliferation of waterborne illnesses
- Identify institutional processes that can mitigate the risks of waterborne illness in a facility

Speakers:
Brett Butler is Director of Facilities, Construction and Real Estate for Metro Health | University of Michigan Health. He has led operations, maintenance and engineering, design, construction, and real estate within various organizations and for various clients over the past 30 years. Brett holds a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration, majoring in Facilities Management and minoring in Advertising and Public Relations from Grand Valley State University - the first University at the time to offer the Facilities Management curriculum through the school of business.
Jeff Archambeau served in the United States Navy on the storied battleship the USS Iowa for 4 years, and has held various positions in power and chemical plant utility operations prior to coming to Metro Health | University of Michigan Health as Plant Systems Engineer. Through his Navy training and commercial experience, Jeff holds significant expertise in utility plant operations and safety in the areas of potable water, sanitary sewer, hot water and steam boilers, evaporative and mechanical cooling systems, and on-site power generation.
Lizz Croote, MS, MLS(ASCP)cm, CIC is the Technical Supervisor of Microbiology at Metro Health. She worked in the clinical Microbiology laboratory for four years before transitioning to Infection Prevention and Control in 2016 and then back to the laboratory in 2019. Lizz has a Master's degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences from Michigan State University and is certified in Infection Control.
